From Setback to Success: The Inspiring Journey of Kiontre Harris
Challenges and setbacks often pave the way to success in high school athletics. However, how we navigate those obstacles truly defines our journey, and few stories exemplify this better than that of Kiontre Harris, a cornerback from Lemoore High School in Lemoore, CA.
When I first met Kiontre, he possessed raw talent and potential. However, he hit a roadblock in his sophomore year after leaving the team. Fortunately, my friend David Ausberry saw something special in Kiontre and asked me for assistance. Together, we embarked on a journey to help Kiontre realize his dreams of playing Division 1 football.
The first hurdle we faced was Kiontre’s academic standing, which left much to be desired. With several classes needing retakes, the prospect of turning his academic situation around seemed daunting. However, I was determined to instill in Kiontre the belief that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible.
We devised a plan that included enrolling in online courses through a local community college—a decision that would prove pivotal in Kiontre’s journey. Despite initial doubts, Kiontre embraced the opportunity and committed himself wholeheartedly to his studies. His hard work paid off, as he not only improved his GPA but also caught the attention of college coaches.
As Kiontre’s academic standing improved, so too did his prospects on the football field. Offers began pouring in from schools nationwide, including Washington State, Utah State, and the University of Washington. However, a local offer from Fresno State ultimately captured Kiontre’s heart.
With his commitment to Fresno State secured, Kiontre’s journey from setback to success was complete. His resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to his goals testify to the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.
Reflecting on Kiontre’s journey, I am reminded that, no matter how dire the circumstances may seem, there is always hope for those who refuse to give up. Kiontre’s story is a shining example of the transformative power of perseverance and inspires all who face challenges on their path to success.
As Kiontre prepares to embark on the next chapter of his journey at Fresno State, I do not doubt that he will continue to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness both on and off the field.
